Although an inordinate amount of time has ensued since my last article on "Moral Values" and due to current trends in Washington, we have elected to revive this series. In closing Volume 6, I indicated that the next volume would discuss the various moral issues that seem to cause so much consternation among non-believers (non-Christians) of both political parties. Recent action of our illustrious Majority Leader encourages me to reopen this series for the 2008 campaign. (Reference: "House Majority Leader Launches American Values Agenda", http://www.traditional.org/print.php?sid=2778) His actions and the fact that the moral issues he has defined remain close to the surface of motivating American politics, are cause enough to make this occasion a timely renaissance.
"Moral Values" has never ceased to be at issue in the election process. In reality, the lack of a plausible platform of moral values has been the nemesis of the Democrat Party for years. This is not to say that all or even most Democrats are void of moral groundings; rather, it is to point out that their party has demonstrated a lack of cohesiveness in purpose and intent to lead the American people toward moral high ground.
I submit that the majority of Americans, regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof, subscribe to traditional values based on the Judeo/Christian precepts of the Bible -- not some other religion or some other philosophy. If my perception is accurate, and I sincerely believe it is, it necessarily follows that any political party that fails to persuade the general American public that their party upholds the principle of sound moral values as inspired by their forefathers has, in essence, tipped the playing field to the advantage of their competition.
This is why John Boehner is currently leading his party to pursue an agenda that encompasses ten major areas of moral contention that besets our people. Even if a Republican majority fails to pass all or any of the proposed legislation, the GOP right-wing composed of conservative evangelicals, Catholics, Protestant mainliners, traditional Judeo followers and others of similar moral persuasion will have won the day.
When America turns its political belly towards the Son, the nation returns to the roots of its founding fathers and reclaims the high road of its political heritage. To shun Christianity, to disclaim the nation's Judeo/Christian birthright, to remove God from public life leads us toward a future of failure and destruction.
Our courts and our laws must project the light of truth and justice into the froth of mixed moral signals swirling about us as fomented by Hollywood and the atheistic element among us. To prohibit freedom of Christian expression is a violation of religious freedom. To curtail religious speech is tantamount to stamping our Bill of Rights in the mire of political correctness and the clay of irrational need to destroy all vestiges of Christian reference in the name of tolerance and expediency.
