"CREATION VERSUS EVOLUTION"
(or could they be one and the same)

IT IS . or . IS NOT or IS IT?
"In the beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth."
We were told as children that this was the way it happened and as an article of faith believed as little children. Then came knowledge and with it science and we opened minded and well read ones believed that if dinosaurs and fossils were millions of years old there was some diametrically opposed forces; that is those that believed the ten words of Genesis 1:1 and those that read a fossil and reckoned its date at just over a zillion years give or take.
In the ten words God laid a challenged down to man. Believe me in the face of all other facts.
The arguments began as fast as Darwin could write the Origins of the Species. There became splits in religious bodies, schools, the courts took up the case in Tennessee and in many other places; it was the Bible against Science. Good against Evil. The schism rented the fabric between simple Faith and simple science. Science was evil; creation was good. Evolution was intelligent; Creation was redneck. And the battle was joined.
But was there another answer. Had God foreseen the conflict before the creation?
Since guessing what is in Gods mind has always been a bit dicey then maybe there are a number of possibilities.
In the beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth.
No where in Genesis 1:1 is there a statement of what God actually created. God created the Heavens and the Earth. But what did he create? Genesis 1:9 and let the dry [land] appear: and it was so. So land appeared. By Genesis 1:25 he had created all animals; fish and creepy thing. and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good. And in twenty five verses the writers of the Bible, the chroniclers of God and Man, has placed upon the Earth everything short of Homo sapiens.
The concept of evolution that is a notion that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor.
While Darwin's Theory of Evolution is a relatively young archetype, the evolutionary worldview itself is as old as antiquity. Ancient Greek philosophers such as Anaximander postulated the development of life from non-life and the evolutionary descent of man from animal. Charles Darwin simply brought something new to the old philosophy -- a plausible mechanism called "natural selection." Natural selection acts to preserve and accumulate minor advantageous genetic mutations. ( Link)
A plausible mechanism and easily believable. Evolution science seemed to negate the Biblical explanation of instantaneous arrival of plants and animals on the surface of the Earth. The lightening in the ocean pond scum theory of beginnings of life began to become the accepted practice. At best the Christian acceptance came with the caveat, that of the miraculous heavenly finger that stirred the scum and formed the first amoebas.
The Biblical genesis, the Beginnings, were thus cast to the condescending role of shepherds tales told by uneducated tribesmen and passed by oral tradition to the those that would learn to write thousands of years later. What was easy enough for many Christians was the concept that in reality, whether creationism or evolutionism it really didnt matter anyway; Christ, as it seems, didnt spend much time on the subject. Modern Christianity didnt really care one way or the other but modern science did and they hammered home the argument in every text book to the point of ignoring all other possibilities and thus Darwins Theory became Darwins Immutable Law.
Now there has come a resurgence in teaching and accepting creationism that has re-polarized both sides, the atheist that accepts nothing but Darwinism, the religious left that accepts Darwinism, Buddhism, and Feng Shi all with the same equality, the middle that is disinterested in argument and the various sub groups on the right including those that believe that fossils were made by a conspiracy of the radical left and that the moon landing was shot on a Hollywood film set. It is easy to rest in the middle ground without firm conviction either way but neither does it answer the question, if possible, as to what really happened.
Then there is my pet answer.
First since God is all-powerful, omnipotent and omnipresence, is it safe to assume that he knew that this war, mostly of words was going to occur? Here is my thought; what if God created evolution for the purpose of testing man. The test as to whether we could have our faith challenged and still believe. It has been a good test.
Then additional possibilities exist; that we really are 10 zillion years old and that He created it just that way and evolution and creationism go hand in hand; or we appear to be 10 zillion years old but in reality we are only the Biblical calendar old and he created it to be just that way; or that the loony Right is correct and the Left did invent fossils. What if the Humorous God created evolution as no more than a great joke upon man; to watch man struggle with the Truth when in reality it wasnt all that necessary to find it? If God created the platypus from all the left over parts of other creatures, then maybe his sense of humor extends to the Creation/Evolution Argument itself.
