Salute to Desk Bound Heroes

There he was
Bent over a desk
With long hours of
Little sleep or rest

............
Away from home
Many a day long
Doing his duty
With a map or over a phone

Most times all alone

.............

No matter the task
The hours spent
It was his job
And on and on he went

................

Up late at night
Much coffee he drank
Till his eyes sank
Sleep was an enemy
He had also to fight

................

Stay he did till job done well
No matter the cost
Even if to arm wrestle with hell

................

Always sharp and crisp
Was the uniform to look
And not just because
It said in a book

.................

Worthy was to sum it all
Of him who answered the call
He looked past the glamor
And the look
It was the honor that he took

.................

He earned his pay
And respect was paid
When he left
There was much to say

..................

Thanks from a great full nation
And the state he did serve
With hand shakes and farewell
A call to attention
And a final salute

.................

Stand at ease
All stand down
For the soldier
Is homeward bound

........................................................
