While the size of the Mahdi Army is a constant source of debate, media accounts often put the Mahdi Army at anywhere from 40,000 to 60,000 fighters. With an estimated 1,000 Mahdi fighters killed, captured, wounded and surrendered, the Mahdi Army has taken an attrition rate of 1.5 to 2.5 percent over the past five days. Lady Medic Wins Silver Star
CAMP SALERNO, Afghanistan - A 19-year-old medic from Texas will become the first woman in Afghanistan and only the second female soldier since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest medal for valor.

Monica Lin Brown, with complete disregard for her own personal safety, saved the lives of at least five fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through their convoy of Humvees in the eastern province of Paktia last April when she made a courageous dash through insurgent gunfire and shielded her wounded comrades with her body while enemy mortar rounds exploded around them. Al-Qaeda Attacks Algeria
Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for a double car bomb strike in Algiers on Tuesday that killed dozens of people as rescuers desperately worked through the night to find survivors.

Enough Uranium Found to Make Nasty Dirty Bomb!
BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — Two Hungarians and a Ukrainian arrested in an attempted sale of uranium were peddling material believed to be from the former Soviet Union, police said yesterday. Officials claimed it was weapons-grade uranium, but outside experts questioned that assessment and suggested it might be far less lethal.
".. nvestigators believed the uranium was suitable for a radiological "dirty bomb." He said the uranium had been stashed in unspecified containers, and that investigators determined it contained 98.6% uranium-235. Uranium is considered weapons-grade if it contains at least 85% uranium-235." Link

WHY WE FIGHT
I received this from a friend whose son is on his third deployment in Iraq, a Marine stationed just outside of Fallujah...
All, I tell you, you can never predict what the day will bring. Some days are rough, some are odd, some good & then there are some that you will never forget. Yesterday was one of those days that I will never forget as long as I live. I tell you, I was totally blown away. What happened to me yesterday out does all of the photos I have sent and all the stories I have told to you about my experiences over here.
The day started off as any other, planning the mission, briefing it, and heading out the gate. It was about 120 degrees and we had been on mission for about 3 hours. Everybody was miserable and no one in the community was cooperating. It was just a plain old bad day. The kids were the usual, always there to get a toy or candy. I was not in the mood that day to be pleasant , so I separated myself from the group passing out the gifts and just pulled rear security. I even told kids to keep away, but this one child, who appeared to have down syndrome, just kept watching me. Every time I moved, he moved. He was literally like my shadow. I pointed to the guys giving out gifts and told him to go to them and he shook his head no. I just looked at him like what do you want.
'Thank you sir for making me safe!'Now here is the part that just broke me down. He slowly walked over, looked up at me, stuck out his hand and said, in English, 'Thank you sir for making me safe!'
I didn't know what to say, My words just stuck in my throat. All I could do was smile and do my best to keep it together, he wouldn't even let go of my hand. He just kept looking up at me and shaking my hand. I mean what do you do? It was absolutely the best thing that could have happened to me on that day or even on my whole tour over here, totally unbelievable.
I didn't know it at the time, but one of the other guys had a camera and caught the moment. During de-brief the unit was showing slides on the projector for the days mission and this photo popped up. I lost it and I had to walk out of the room. It took me several minutes to shake it off. Unbelievable!! Remember this picture/moment every time the news tells you about all the bad going on over here! We are absolutely making a difference, even if it is only one step at a time!!! I hope all of my last 15+ days go this way.....

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in Iraq during the last 22 months, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.
The rate in DC is 80.6 per 100,000.
That means that you are more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.
Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of WASHINGTON, DC!
