CHINA TO SUE MATTEL!! for LIBEL!!

BEIJING (AFP) -- A Chinese province is likely to join a planned libel suit against US giant Mattel, accusing the toy maker of harming the region's reputation, state press said Tuesday.

The government of Guangdong province is considering the suit after Mattel issued a safety recall on more than 21 million Chinese-made toys this summer, but later apologised saying 85 percent of the recall was due to its own design flaws, the China Daily said.

"The incident has stained the reputation of Chinese toy manufacturers and made a large number of toy factories in Guangdong lose a great deal of money," it quoted Chen Lipeng, director of the province's fair trade bureau, as saying.

"A simple apology cannot compensate for the losses."

Food Issues top Agenda ... Talks with China

"When we set this up last September ....  I don't think anyone of us at that time saw product safety, food safety, the whole integrity of trade as being the key issue that it is today," he said on CNBC Television.

Nonetheless, "I would think that would be the top agenda item that we have" next week, he added. The discovery of tainted food items and dangerous children's toys imported from China fanned U.S. consumer anger earlier this year. Link

"For the US Congress to take this action and the US leader to meet with the Dalai Lama is a severe violation of the norms of international relations," Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi

"We express our extreme dissatisfaction and strong opposition. We urge the US side to cancel these activities."

Answer ..... No!

A Chinese Population Equal to the USA has No Safe Drinking Water!

"Nearly 312 million rural Chinese residents have no access to safe drinking water, facing problems of shortage as well as severe contamination. These rural populations, typically the most disadvantaged groups in China, suffer frequent and serious health attacks as a result of drinking unsafe water. The threats come from both naturally occurring contaminants such as arsenic, fluorine, and salt as well organic and industrial pollution caused by human activities." Link   .... "A Chinese cosmetics company is using skin harvested from the corpses of executed convicts to develop beauty products for sale in Europe, an investigation by the Guardian has discovered.

Agents for the firm have told would-be customers it is developing collagen for lip and wrinkle treatments from skin taken from prisoners after they have been shot. The agents say some of the company's products have been exported to the UK, and that the use of skin from condemned convicts is "traditional" and nothing to "make such a big fuss about".

CHILD FORCED LABOR PRODUCES EXPORTS TO THE USA

Why do we buy such products?  .....  By buying these goods we are exploiting children!  We would not allow it here .... but we consider it an internal Chinese problem not ours and besides ... they are just Chinese Children ... What Racism!    KMH

"Even more noteworthy is the fact that - compared to adult workers - child workers tend to be more docile and compliant, submit more readily to their employers’ arbitrary extension of work hours and do not demand overtime pay. Moreover, because hiring child workers is illegal, employers can avoid paying various legally-mandated social security fees on their behalf, making the cost of employing child labour even lower. In addition, some of the physiological characteristics of child workers meet employers’ specific needs in terms of production and management. For example, their fingers are nimble, their eyesight is good, and, in some types of work, they can be more productive than adults."

China Speaks.... "Apart from the mounting protectionism and prejudice against China, we have to admit that the credibility crisis encountered by Made-in-China products is also the result of some Chinese enterprises caring about nothing as much as profiteering, and by some local governments that try to shield the wrong-doing enterprises, perhaps because they generate a large share of local revenues."  Link

European Union ...

"EU toy safety rules will be revised by the end of the year, the European Commission said Tuesday, responding to concerns sparked by three high-profile recalls of Chinese-made toys by a U.S. company this year.

Chinese Unemployment.

Despite serious rural unemployment and vague figures for urban areas is masked by the continuing boom in the Chinese economy. "Considering a pool of 150 million surplus workers in the countryside, the job market in China is still "complicated and grave," Link

Why is this important? Because the Red Army draws from that vast pool of the unemployed and there is a giant surplus of males to females. This combination in China has always led to war and one assumes history will repeat.

China ... " ... lead is still so common that researchers say up to one-fifth of Chinese children tested had unsafe levels in their blood."

BUT WHY WAS IT? ...  Who was supposed to receive the message?  Some think it was the Chinese; that is to say get your Ministries in order or get a bullet. But I think it was a public relations stunt and little more. The rest of the world was supposed to see how serious the Chinese are about product safety .... "why they shot this minister!"  But they shoot people everyday for less; no I think he was shot to make you feel better about Chinese products. "wow they must be a lot safer because they shot this high ranking dude. .... so I should really feel better." ..... well do you? I don't. Few people in China act without orders from above and the higher up you are the more you get orders until you arrive at the top. I blame the top.... Live China Free!

Lead Paint is a huge issue and was not an accidental nor a mistaken production error.  The large number of " lead paint recalls" from many Chinese companies can not be an "opps I'm we screwed up". The Chinese are well aware of the dangers of lead paint and this can only be a intentional .... lead adds brightness to colors; durability, flexibility (and yep Cheap!)  to the paint. Ben Franklin knew it ... letter he wrote ....  SO ... we know why; I repeat ...CHEAP... but why chance the loss of the American markets? Because they are buying politicians now and a presidency in the past. They do not expect to be really punished.  So we can bitch and moan and protect our children and buy higher priced .... and safer toys and children's furniture, beds and accessories  from other sources .. or just let them "Eat Paint"  ..... Read the National Safety Council on lead and children  then decide.  KH

Did you know? Now you do....!

Melamine is an additive that the Chinese have added to their products to boost a fraudulent level of protein. They are trying to sell a product which is dangerous and lying about the content of proteins in it.

"Melamine is an industrial chemical found in plastics. The US found that the chemical had been fraudulently added to wheat gluten and rice protein from China. The country has now banned its exporters from using the chemical as an additive to boost protein levels in feeds."   Link

"In the US, the FDA last week issued an import alert guidance, which singled out a number of wheat, rice, corn, soy and mung bean imports from China for regulatory attention.

China Blames Mattel

"If you give a high price for purchasing, the factories will use high quality raw materials to produce. But if the price is low, they can only use inferior raw materials," Li said. Link

On Tuesday, China's ambassador to the United States defended the quality of Chinese products and blamed the press for "churning up agitating stories."

It is the critics who are at fault not the crappy producers and besides if you want crap we will make it and sell .... well that's exactly what he says! KH

In a Story in the Washington Post in May  .... " 20,000,000 American chickens may have consumed adulterated Chinese feed.

"About 20 million chickens being raised for human consumption in several states ate feed made with melamine-tainted pet food and are being held from market to keep them from entering the food supply, Agriculture Department officials said" Link

With Hillary Clinton on the Board of Wal-Mart ... they lead the world in a race to the bottom  "There is no question that the chain is helping accelerate the loss of American jobs to low-wage countries such as China. Wal-Mart, which in the late 1980s and early 1990s trumpeted its claim to 'Buy American,' has doubled its imports from China in the past five years alone ..."   Link

Chinese Authorities .... say .. "Li also hit out at foreign companies exploiting China's cheap production costs and warned that they risk getting shoddy products if they demand too low a price from Chinese manufacturers.

"If you give a high price for purchasing, the factories will use high quality raw materials to produce. But if the price is low, they can only use inferior raw materials,"  (So if our price is cheap ... we will send you shoddy, dangerous crap!)

Chinese Condoms "ineffective".... recalled from Washington D.C. Project

"Tens of thousands of condoms provided free by the District to curb HIV-AIDS have been returned to the health department because of complaints that their paper packaging is easily damaged and could render the condoms ineffective." Link

But who is watching the exports in China

" ..... the exceedingly high levels of pesticide residues in Chinese food products may pose significant problems for international sales, especially in Europe, Japan and the U.S., where food safety standards are more stringent and more strictly enforced." Link

"China's contamination problems stem in large part from its loose regulations and highly fragmented food production. Hundreds of millions of small farmers grow its food, and they rely heavily on chemicals to coax production out of intensively cultivated soils and to fight pests.

The result: "China has one of the world's highest rates of chemical fertilizer use per hectare, and Chinese farmers use many highly toxic pesticides, including some that are banned in the United States," according to a report published last November by the economic-research service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture."
